Kalamazoo Central High School and Plainwell Community Schools were placed on lock-down Tuesday morning.

The schools were placed on lock-down due to a police search that involved an armed gunman. The actions of the gunman did not have anything to do with the schools but as a precaution, to protect students, and staff, the schools were placed on a lock-down.

Plainwell Community Schools were placed on lock-down due to the advice of the Public Department of Public Safety.

Mlive.com reported that...

"Plainwell Community Schools is currently on a temporary lock down under the advisement of Plainwell Department of Public Safety due to a public incident. We are following all district guidelines and procedures. We will send a communication to all parents when given an all-clear by the Plainwell Department of Public Safety."

Michigan State Police confirm that a helicopter was requested to assist in the search, and that the armed gunman was apprehended.

Since I am not a parent I wondered exactly what is a school lock-down entails and according to tmis.us...

"All school activities are moved indoors. Depending on the type of lockdown, interior and exterior doors on campus are locked. No one is allowed to enter or exit the building. Parents may not come to the school during a lockdown. Parents are also discouraged from calling the school directly. Additional calls hinder the ability of staff to respond to the primary task: keeping everyone safe."

I am just really grateful everyone's babies are safe and thankful for our AMAZING police force!
