Middle of January and I'm dreaming of cruising in the car of my dreams. Chevrolet revealed it's Generation 2 Volt at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We all have our dream cars. For the past five years, mine has been the Chevy Volt. I got to test drive at Volt a couple of years ago and it still is the single best ride I've ever had. And I have owned four sports cars over the years, and a Pinto.

A lot of people don't know anything about the Volt. It's an EREV. Extended Range Electric Vehicle. With the new Volt, your first 50 miles are electric. But here's the really cool thing. It also has a small gas engine that recharges the battery after those first 50 miles. So, if you don't have to worry about running out of charge, like an all-electric car.

With me, it's not an environmental thing. Before gas prices tumbled, it certainly was a dream to thumb my nose at the oil companies, for $4/gallon fuel. But truly, it's such a cool car.

The only thing I worry about is the price. The first generation Volt's were very expensive, even with a government rebate. You see a few tooling around town, mostly around Western's campus. Scoff, if you want. It's not a glorified golf cart. It's the coolest ride I ever had. Instant torque, because there's no transmission. And, of course, quiet. Me want one. Santa, please? (There's time. Gen 2 doesn't go on sale til later this year.)
