Shop Small Saturday is all about local business. The day focuses on how and where to shop to support the small town businesses that are, often times, the heart of their town. But, this year one local candy shop decided to take the day's earnings and donate a portion of them to a local organization.

I've got to hand it to Rocket Fizz in downtown Kalamazoo. I don't even own a business and 2020 has me stressed out with how these local places are going to make it. I'd be so quick to hoard every penny. But, not Rocket Fizz.

As reported by WWMT News Channel 3, Rocket Fizz plans to donate 10% of its funds from Shop Small Saturday to the Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo. The money will go towards food, shelter and medical care.

When asked why he decided to give back, owner Tom Holmer said,

The community has been amazing to us this year, even when we were shutdown we still found ways to do gift basket deliveries and instead of trying to giveaway a knick knack or a bag or something like that, we thought how can we give back to the community, so we both are animal lovers and of course let's take of puppies and kittens

I'm still relatively new to Kalamazoo but I have to say that the generosity displayed by local business owners, whether they're collaborating with each other or otherwise, has been astounding. And what Rocket Fizz is doing is no different. Love to see it!
