Here’s my list of the Top 10 Songs of 2013.  No rules, so it’s made up of the songs I liked this year.  Just don’t want One Direction or Macklemore fans mad at me.

10.          Icona Pop – I Love It

My love for Swedish pop music goes way back – ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, Robyn and so many more.  Icona Pop continues the tradition of infectious ear candy from Sweden with this song.  You can’t tell me your foot doesn’t start bouncing when this song comes on!

9.            Justin Timberlake – Suit & Tie

Not a bad way to kick off his 1st album in 7 years.  His appearances on SNL and with his buddy Jimmy Fallon didn’t hurt either.  This is just a really great song.

My son Jack is almost 6 and could sing the hook from this song after the first time he heard it.  So could pretty much anyone, anywhere.  I’m not the biggest country music fan, but this song sure does get stuck in your head, doesn’t it?!

7.            Bruno Mars – Treasure

Much like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars has so much talent it’s almost unfair.  Watch the video for this song and try to tell me that this guy isn’t having a ton of fun doing what he loves.  I’d give just about anything to be a member of his band.  Always looks like they’re having a blast!

6.            Zedd w/Foxes – Clarity

OK.  I admit it.  I’m a sucker for songs like this one.  Awesome beat, great hook, repeatability (that means I can listen to it 3-4 times in a row and not get sick of it).  This is the entire package for me.  Still sounds fresh to me after A LOT of listens this year.

5.            Lorde – Royals

To be honest, I don’t want to like this song.  Kinda slow.  Singer seems a little bored.  But there’s just something about it that makes me like it.  Very similar to my situation with Pringles.  I shouldn’t like ‘em as much as I do, but I just can’t help myself.

4.            Katy Perry – Roar

Katy Perry figured something out a couple of years ago and has been on a crazy roll since.  Teenage Dream album was a guilty pleasure of mine.  This one’s pretty good too.  Doesn’t hurt that my almost-2-year-old-daughter Charlotte likes to sing this at the top of her lungs.  Yeah, that probably helps.  Cuz Charlotte’s pretty cool.

3.            Rihanna – Stay

Incredibly emotional performance by Rihanna.  She’s awesome.  And for those who want to criticize her behavior, I’d like to know how you’d act if you had her talent, were the biggest pop star in the world and only 25.

2.            Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

Everybody get up!  One of the songs you just couldn’t get away from this year.  I’ll bet you’ve seen both versions of the video too.  His appearance w/Miley Cyrus at the VMAs and the whole Marvin Gaye family lawsuit aside, this song defined summer for most people.

Truth be told, I’m a huge fan of Daft Punk.  Something about the whole robot-thing I dig.  Add to that Pharrell Williams AND some sweet disco-guitar from Nile Rodgers of Chic, and you’ve got the song that will make me look back on 2013 with a smile.  Plus, every time I buy a MegaMillions ticket from now on I’ll be humming this song.

Let me know what you have on your list.  Looking forward to discovering some new gems in 2014.
