The Lawson Loonies will have to be in mid season form quickly into the 2017-18 hockey season because the Broncos open the (NCHC) conference portion of their season hosting new crowned NCAA champions Denver University on November 3rd and 4th.

The Western Michigan Bronco Hockey team lost 5-2 on the first night of the NCHC "Frozen FaceOff" conference tournament. But experts say the team still has a chance of grabbing a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Hockey Tournament.

Going into the NCHC conference tournament tomorrow, the Western Michigan Bronco Hockey team is ranked #4 in the all-important PairWise Power Rankings, which is a very strong indicator of what teams will be invited to the NCAA Hockey Tournament.

The 8th Ranked Western Michigan Broncos open post-season play this weekend at Lawson Ice Arena, against Nebraska-Omaha. And thanks to retiring WMU President John Dunn, student tickets are free.

With third place secure, and Minnesota-Duluth pretty much in second, the two games this weekend at Lawson this weekend are about one thing: Making a statement.
