Update: The City of Kalamazoo had decided there cannot be a DooDah Parade this year, due to concerns about Covid-19 and social distancing. More details to come.
Close your eyes for a second, and imagine if you will, a group of dressed up people marching down Michigan Avenue in downtown Kalamazoo on a beautiful sunny June day. This group would remind you of a Halloween or a costume party. And they'd make you laugh. That, my friends, is the DooDah Parade.
There was a time when the DooDah parade was really fun. It's still fun, but it's not what it was when at least a half dozen entries were able to make you laugh out loud. Well, that's going to change this Saturday.
Dave Benson is off the hook. Dana Marshall now has taken the title of best cross-dresser at a Doodah parade. The 2017 KFR DooDah Parade is in the dustbin of history. Lots of laughs, lots of people, lots of fun. And the KFR crew was the many incarnations of Britney Spears.
The 36th (or so) annual DooDah Parade needs you. It's not a parade without the goofy, wacky, call it what you want, fun of great entries. And collectively, we desperately need a good laugh. So if that's you, you need to get entered by Friday.
With this Saturday's Doo-Dah Parade coming up on it's 35th (or 36th, or 34th) anniversary, it was time to take a look into the KFR archives for some pictures. I found a bunch, and they seem to be from the early 90's.
