Kalamazoo K-9 Gets Protective Vest In Memory Fallen Officer
A Kalamazoo County police dog is getting a bullet and stab preventative vest in memory of a fallen officer. The Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation and Vested Interest Inc., a Massachusetts nonprofit, are sponsoring the vest for Roseco, a 20 month old German Shepard with the sheriff's department. The German Shepard's vest will be embroidered with the message “In memory of Officer Collin Rose EOW 11/23/16”, in remembrance of Kalamazoo County native and Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose.
The foundation is a non-profit that sponsors protective equipment for police dogs, created a scholarship in Rose's name and supports people who've lost companions in the line of duty.
In total, the organization has donated 3,000 protective vests to K-9 officers since getting its start in 2009, according to the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s office. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $950.00. Each vest has a value between $1,744 – $2,283 and a five-year warranty.
