Michigan is in the crosshairs of a major storm that is going to be moving through the state today. Multiple sources have decided that there is a severe weather risk moving into the state this afternoon.

We’ve already reported about how this weekend the heat indices will be over 100 for Kalamazoo and 104 in Flint. Now it looks like Wednesday, June 18, will see some very heavy storms moving in from the southwest.

Kalamazoo in Calhoun County will most likely have an enhanced severe weather risk through Thursday morning on June 19 until 8 AM. From 2 PM to 10 PM.

There is a medium risk of a tornado, with a very high risk of high winds and possible hail. It was also reported by meteorologist Kolton Woods that, in addition to severe weather potential, he is closely monitoring a chance that there could be flooding as well.

We are closely watching the potential for strong to severe storms Wednesday afternoon into the evening. Attached is what the radar COULD look like Wednesday at 4 p.m. This is a simulated model run and not exactly what will unfold, but it shows the potential of what West Michigan might deal with during the day. The atmosphere will be fueled with warmth and humidity and with strong winds moving in aloft, the environment is conducive to severe storms.

Although we need Rayne, you never like to see it all come at once. Hopefully, the most we end up getting are some strong wins, and we can avoid having to worry about a possible tornado touching down in southwest Michigan.

But as with all storms, it’s crucial to keep an eye on the radar so you stay alert if there is a possibility of a touchdown.
