For some of us, this warning is arbitrary and has no meaning to us but to a large portion of the population here in Michigan, this warning could literally save their lives. If you know anything about the fall season and the months of October and November, then you know that hunting season is on its way.

There are people who spend weeks planning, cleaning, and organizing their guns, hideouts, and other materials necessary to go out for a hunting trip. As thousands of people in Michigan prepare to visit their favorite spots or even try a new spot for weekends of hunting fun, there are a few things they should keep in mind.

As most hunters know, wearing bright colors and announcing themselves can keep themselves safe from being shot by another hunter, but that isn't the only danger they have to be concerned with. One of the main dangers that a hunter will have other than wildlife and other hunters, is the possibility of trespassing. Most hunting is done on remote land or in state game areas, but that doesn't mean all of the land is state owned or unclaimed.

There are a large number of places that are great for hunting but there are a lot of landowners who worry about trespassers during this time of year. Many landowners have begun to mark trees, fence posts, and other markers or objects to notify hunters that they may be in danger if they don't stop and turn around.

Landowners will use orange paint to paint trees, fence posts, markers, and other objects that are near or on their property lines to make hunters aware that they are trespassing on their property and should leave immediately. By law here in Michigan, this doesn't head the same warning that a "No Trespassing" sign would, but you may also see purple or yellow paint as well.

Hunting season is coming up and the hunters in Michigan should go out and have a safe and enjoyable hunting season, but they should keep their eyes peeled for painted trees, fence posts, and other objects to make sure they aren't trespassing on anyone's property and violating the law.
