Michigan Elementary School Locked Down For Mistaken Water Gun
In the last 10 years, it seems as if school shootings have become far more common than they were before. Some of this has to do with the access that students have to weapons in their home, some of it is due to physical, emotional, and mental bullying that may be happening in person or online over social media. The security of children while they are at school is the number one priority, leading to these events in Michigan.

Michigan has seen multiple school shootings and have beefed up security measures in school districts all over the state to make them safer. This has included one or more school resource officers, more campus safety officers, metal detectors, and more. Obviously, these are all preventative measures but are not full proof answers to the problem.
Although these things are in place, sometimes things can still sneak by or the unexpected can happen. An elementary school in Northern Michigan was placed on lockdown although it turned out to be a precaution rather than a need to respond. The lockdown started because there was a report of a student possessing a weapon.
Manistee County Sheriff's Office, Manistee City Police, Michigan State Police and Tribal police were all called to Kennedy Elementary in Filer Township to address and handle the situation. Upon searching the school officials came across and identified an 11-year-old boy who had a water pistol.
The young boy was turned over to his parents after the incident and it is believed that he meant no harm or threat to anyone in the school. The investigation isn't quite over as they are still combing through the details and deciding the next steps. The sheriff's office did say they take all threats to schools seriously and work with other law enforcement agencies and school districts to keep them safe.
The Manistee County Sheriff's Office also said they encourage parents to have conversations with their children about what is and isn't appropriate to bring to school. They also said they would provide more information as the investigation comes to a close but it's nice to know they handled this with swift care until they were sure everything was safe.
