It's most people's desire to move away from their hometown and create a new life for themselves that they enjoy. The tough thing about that is feeling comfortable in your new space as you are trying to figure everything out. Most people who move away are looking for another city that feels like home but still has enough differences to be something new.

Some people choose to move as far away as possible hoping that things will be completely different while other choose to move only hours away to still be in close proximity to their family and friends. At the end of the day, the style of living in each town, city, and state is different which leads to different experiences. Most people are looking for a place they feel has a good quality of living while others are looking for the best of the best.

People living in Michigan will tell you it's one of the most beautiful and exciting places to live within the United States but at the same time it has its concerns. The style of living here in Michigan is very similar to many of the other Midwest states but the language, eating, and entertainment habits are what draw people to Michigan the most.

Quality of living here in Michigan varies depending on what part of the state you're living in but also for what you determine to be a quality life. The US World and News Report ranked cities in the 150 largest metropolitan areas across America based upon their quality of living using the following metrics:

  • how satisfied residents are with their daily lives
  • crime
  • quality and availability of health care
  • quality of education
  • average commute time

What comes as no shocker to anyone living in Michigan, Ann Arbor tops the list as the number 1 city in the entire country when it comes to quality of living. The college town of the University of Michigan has long been considered one of the best in the Mitten state. Here is what the US World and New Report said about Ann Arbor:

Ann Arbor is a city of contrasts. It is at once rural and urban, sporty and smart, outdoorsy and high-tech, counterculture and high society. It is best known as the home of the University of Michigan, and locals here enjoy all the trappings of a stereotypical Midwestern college town: a charming, historic main street lined with bookstores, gift shops and taverns; a healthy mix of longtime residents and shorter-term passers-through; and plentiful cultural destinations and events. At the same time, its proximity to Detroit, fast-growing startup scene, international community, spirit of inclusivity and high walkability give “Tree Town” a feel not unlike that of a much larger city. Aside from the university, excellent public schools, and an increasingly diverse job market, a robust public parks system and low crime rates make Ann Arbor an attractive place for all ages.

The one observation I had from the full list as that most of these cities are college towns which may or may not be factoring into the results. Nonetheless, not only is the University of Michigan one of the best in the world, but the city surrounding it is as well.

$10M Ann Arbor Luxury Home Has Its Own Harley-Themed Game Room

Frank Lloyd Wright didn't design this $10 million Ann Arbor mansion, but you'll see a lot of 'Wright-inspired' touches in this 16,000 square-foot home.

It even has a Harley Davidson-themed game room and bar area downstairs.
