Two suspects are being sought in a shooting that left a Western Michigan University student dead Thursday night.

WOODTV reports that Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were called to the 700 block of S. Howard Street near WMU campus, around 10:30pm Thursday. There, they found one person dead; more details regarding the shooting are not available.

Witnesses told police that two suspects left the scene on foot, and it’s believed that they then drove away. One of the men was seen holding a handgun.

The first suspect is described as a black man, standing around 5 foot 10, wearing jeans, a black hoodie, and a red bandana on his face. The second is a black man, about 6 foot 4 inches tall, wearing jeans, a dark hoodie and dark bandana on his face.

A WMU student-athlete has been named as a person of interest in the investigation. WMU Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard said in a written statement that the student in question has been immediately suspected by the university.
