What Are The Best Places in Michigan to Visit?

I'm taking my family on a Michigan Summer Vacation.  We're hopping in the car and heading North. 

We'll go as far North as the tip of the U.P.  But where should we stop on the way?

What are the "must see" spots in Pure Michigan?

Whether it's hiking, kayaking, shopping, or cow tipping...I need some direction.
