V&A Bootery Buys Okun Brothers; Will Keep Separate Names

The owners of V&A Bootery have purchased Okun Brothers Shoes, both of downtown Kalamazoo. The plan is to keep Okun Brothers operating as the store for work, comfort and larger size footwear.According to MLive, the deal came about after the death of Marvin Okun, who had no surviving heirs. Okun died in October at age 91. He also owned the Marvin Okun Insurance Agency. The Okun Brothers store was started by his father and uncle almost a century ago. The insurance agency opening in 1960.

V&A’s heritage goes back 94 years, to 1923. It is currently run by third and fourth generation family members and has grown to multiple locations around the Kalamazoo area, and now to Grand Rapids and St. Joseph.

V&A owner Wiliam Van Dis is quoted in MLive, saying this is an opportunity to move into the work shoe market and to also keep a history Kalamazoo business going.
