There are no lobster, clams or shrimp in the freshwaters of the Great Lakes, so why is there a Maine lobster boat cruising the Straits of Mackinac?

The Ugly Anne has people turning their heads for more reasons than just the name. This 40 foot refurbished Maine lobster fishing vessel is seen daily around Mackinac Island. Far from an invasive species environmental disaster waiting to happen, this boat is a freshwater animal and will probably never be baptized with saltwater again.

It's definitely not the normal look. It's funny when people from the East Coast are here. It's a little bit of a surprise to them.

Since 2011, Chris and Heather West have been offering water tours and charters on the Straits of Mackinac and under the Mackinac Bridge aboard this unique boat that really did come from Maine. You can sail over Great Lakes shipwrecks and learn their history or experience a glorious Lake Michigan sunset framed by the Mackinac Bridge aboard the Ugly Anne.

The Ugly Anne is also available for charters and private events; wedding cruises are a popular occasion to cast off the bow lines and tie the knot.
