Today it was announced that The Detroit Pistons will move along with the Detroit Red Wings into the new Little Caesars Arena in Downtown Detroit next year.  It is not the first time the two sports teams have shared an arena.

According to Click on Detroit, The Pistons and Red Wings shared the Olympia from 1957 to 1961.    Eventually the Pistons would move on to Cobo Arena, then the Pontiac Silverdome, before moving to their current home The Palace of Auburn Hills in 1988.

It is said that it was a costly decision for the Pistons at the time  as it was expensive to transition the arena from hockey to basketball.

The Red Wings would move from the Olympia to the Joe Louis Arena in late 1979.

Both will now share the Little Caesars Arena when it opens in Fall of 2017.
