"Taking a knee" has been on the minds of more than just football fans. What started with one NFL player, has reached the high school level. And one school warns its players, don't do it. The Lansing State-Journal says Lansing Catholic High School's administration has sent letters to parents telling them that any player taking a knee during the national anthem will face disciplinary action. This action prompted by word that some players were considering kneeling at tomorrow night's game with Ionia.

The paper quotes Lansing Catholic President Tom Maloney from the letter, saying

"we will continue to hold our student-athletes to the expectation that they stand for our National Anthem....Any student-athlete who chooses not to stand will receive consequences. As always, this will be handled with Christian Charity, with the goal of growth in virtue.”

The letter acknowledges peaceful protest, but says that a high school football game would not be an appropriate outlet for such a protest. It also says it might create an unsafe situation.

The Lansing Catholic action comes on the heels of Jackson High School's team kneeling before the anthem in a game last week against Grand Ledge.
