Suddenly ‘America’s Grandpa,’ Cubs’ David Ross Says Goodbye
One of the feel good storylines of the Cubs' World Series victory was "Grandpa" David Ross. He had previously announced his retirement after the post season was over, and then in Game 7 he was thrust into the spotlight. And has stayed there in the aftermath.
But, first, game seven. It was beginning to be a nightmarish exit. A series of mistakes, capped off by a wild pitch in which two runs scored was the start. But then, redemption, as Ross hit a home run to deep centerfield to calm things down and an important part of the eventual victory.
In the days afterwards, the victory celebration included a victory parade with millions of adoring fans and a trip to New York to appear on Saturday Night Live.

But now the celebrating is over and it's time to say goodbye. And Ross did in a classy way.
