On this day in 1986, the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded during launch.

I imagine it's like the day when Kennedy was shot or the 9/11 attacks. Everyone remembers when they were when they got the news. I was in Mr. Westmoreland's class at Speake Junior High School in Alabama. It was like the world stopped.

Twenty-nine years ago today, seven crew members, including New Hampshire schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe, had been killed as the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded.

To commemorate this tragedy, KFR is playing songs that were on the Top 40 Charts this week in 1986 for the Theme Thursday on Retro Lunch.
