Ultimately the most important thing about the Red Wings home opener was the two points they picked up with the 4-2 victory. But the team opened the new arena and new era in style.

Complete with red carpet and formal wear, the first game (that counts) in Little Caesars Arena started out more like a Hollywood movie premiere than a game played by children on frozen ponds.

Red Wings old and new arrived via the red carpet, and with plenty of hoopla the 2017-18 began. Team legends Nicklas Lidstrom and Mickey Redmond joined owner Christopher Ilitch for the ceremonial puck drop.

For the trivia buffs, Anthony Mantha scored the first goal at Little Caesars Arena. Jimmy Howard got the first goalie win. The Red Wings won the first game at Little Caesars Arena, beating the Minnesota Wild.
