NFL.com is reporting Lions' star receiver Calvin Johnson is contemplating retirement.

It wouldn't be the first time a Lions superstar retired in the prime of his career. Barry Sanders retired in 1999, essentially due to the grind of the Lions' losing history and culture.

A story on NFL.com quoted a statement Johnson released Wednesday. "Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future," Johnson said. "I would expect to have a decision regarding this matter in the not-too-distant future."

Others noted he kept the ball after scoring the final touchdown of this past Sunday's game.

Johnson just finished his 9th season in Detroit.
