The is not the first time Michigan's gun test has come under fire. Back in 1991, the New York Times published an article entitled,'True or False: Michigan Gun Test Is Easy. A: True'

In that article, the Times found,

Potential gun owners are asked whether statements like these are true or false: "You should treat every pistol as if it were loaded" and "You should always keep the barrel of a pistol pointed in a safe direction." Efforts for Standard Test

The test grew out of state legislation last year to standardize local procedures for getting a permit to buy a handgun. Gun advocates wanted to overturn a year-old Detroit ordinance that required new buyers of handguns to take an eight-hour safety course at a cost of $60.
