Not only does a Michigan city show up high on the cold list, but we have the "coldest place on earth.  Here is a list of the 10 Coldest Large Cities in the US.

5 of the 10 coldest large cities in the US according to this National Weather Service data is with-in a 250 mile drive of Kalamazoo.  Current Results tell us,

These rankings of coldest cities use long-term temperature averages, based on weather data collected from 1981 to 2010 for the NOAA's National Climatic Data Center.

The major cities included in the weather rankings represent the 51 metropolitan areas in the United States with the most people, all those with over one million residents in 2010, according to the US Census Bureau.

Minneapolis takes a very strong lead on the list above.  However, in 2014 Michigan had the coldest place on earth according to MLive,

Scientists at the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Earth System Science Center gave the area near Iron River the chilly designation after finding temperatures nearly 7 degrees colder than normal for the month of January.

And we can't forget the "Icebox of the Nation," Pellston, Michigan.  According to Wikipedia this small town gets VERY cold,

The population was 822 at the 2010 census. The village is the home of Pellston Regional Airport. Its motto is "Icebox of the Nation"; Pellston recorded the state of Michigan's record low temperature, at −53 °F (−47 °C), in 1933,
