New mother loses her fiance and mother in crash.

Two people were killed Saturday while rushing to the hospital for a family birth, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

According to FOX17 News, authorities said the crash happened around 4:00 Saturday afternoon on S. 26th Street near Cork Street. The vehicle was driving north when the driver lost control before veering into a tree.  Police have identified the victims as Emil Skokan III, 34, and Peggy Nichols, 53, who were pronounced dead at the scene.  Authorities have said speed was a factor in the crash.

24-year-old Crystal Matrau-Belt, had to deliver her son via C-Section a week early because she was experiencing high blood pressure. She wept while she told MLive, "They were trying to get here, they didn't know what was going on, and a lot of medical stuff was happening. Their main focus was being able to be here because I didn't want them to miss anything. They just wanted to be there for me."
