Exactly one year after the tragic events that took 6 lives, injured 2 others and left West Michigan in a state of shock, there will be candlelit vigil.

According to WZZM13.com,

On February 20th, 2017, a memorial will be held to honor the victims and survivors of the mass shooting. Law enforcement and first responders will also be honored. A community candlelit vigil led by Pastor Paul Fazio will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Wings Event Center located at Vanrick Drive in Kalamazoo.

On Februrary 20th, 2016 the lives Tyler Smith, Rich Smith, Mary Jo Nye, Mary L. Nye, Barbara Hawthome and Dorothy "Judy" Brown were ripped from their families.

Not to mention we still have survivors of this senseless attack battling to get back to a normal life.

15 year old Abbie Kopf is battling medical problems from low blood pressure and memory loss to a dangerous infection from a plate inserted into her skull.

Tiana Carruthers was shot 3 times when she selflessly put herself in between the gunman and children.  At least 4 kids are alive today because she risked her life.  Tiana is the definition of the word HERO!

Alexis Cornish had the horrific experience of witnessing her boyfriend Tyler and his dad Rich gunned down that night.  The strength and grace Alexis has shown is an inspiration for us all.  Thankfully she is surrounded by many caring friends and family.

Let's keep the victims, survivors and their families in our thoughts and prayers.  It's up to us as a community to help and protect them.  Let's show them that we have their backs.
