I as dog owner living in an apartment I hate that my fur baby has to be on a leash at all times, but it is  for her safety as well as other people and other animals safety. I am constantly floored by the number of people  who do not leash their pets. Just last night, i was walking my pup when I heard a dog fight break out. After the animals where separated (I assume), I heard a man yell, "that dog should be on a leash"! Then this morning I was reading the news and a 60 year old Kalamazoo man was riding his bike when he was attacked by a dog! The police had to shoot the animal.

"KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Tonight we see first-hand, how a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer rushed to help a man being attacked by a dog.

Two weeks ago 60-year-old Ron Bardo was riding his bike home in Kalamazoo.

He tells us out of nowhere a Pit Bull lunged at him, ripping him off his bike.

Witnesses tried to help Bardo by throwing rocks and sticks at the dog, one woman even pepper-sprayed it, but the dog would not let go.

Police dash cam video shows Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Joe Hutson rushing to the scene.

Witnesses point him where to go, he flies onto Egleston and jumps out of the car.

“Get back, get back, get back,” said Officer Hutson.

Officer Hutson shoots the dog six times, ultimately killing it.

Then another officer helps Bardo to the sidewalk.

“I just had a seat on the curb, and went whew...it's over,” said Bardo.

Bardo showed us pictures of his injuries, so thankful just two weeks later he can move his fingers.

“It hurts when I stretch them, but I can touch them together,” said Bardo.

Police are still searching for the dog's owner, but so far no one has come forward.

Bardo believes the dog was trained to fight.

“My forearm was the first thing it found and it was a constant tug of war,” said Bardo.

Despite the traumatic experience, Bardo says he'll be using his gruesome scars as a costume for Halloween.

“I don't know, Beetlejuice, Frankenstein,” said Bardo.

Bardo's wife says she's so thankful for the quick action of all the public safety officers that day she's baking a cake for them."

It is so sad that a man was a attacked an a dog had to die, so please leash you dogs!
