Some of the best cups of Joe are served up right here in Kalamazoo!

Dana makes fun of me for reading the news paper (yes, an actual paper), but sometimes you stumble upon these great gems of information.

The Detroit Free Press has listed the best places to get a cup of coffee in the state of Michigan and 2 of Kalamazoo's treasures have made the list!

414 Walbridge St., Kalamazoo Township

Black Owl Cafe is a "hidden gem" that grounds its beans in the back of the historic shop. They also offer vegetarian and vegan options.

Jessica V. reported on yelp.com her love for the coffee shop...

Located just on the eastern edge of downtown Kalamazoo, Black Owl is a hipster's hangout. The décor is fun, and the coffee, well, that's a work of art, too. Lee, the barista that I've seen, is a master craftsman. Delicious! The coffee is freshly roasted in small batches. Free wifi and friendly Lee = a home office with beans. LOVE.

315 E. Water St., Kalamazoo

Friendly staff, great coffee and close to downtown. And there are five locations throughout Kalamazoo.

Sarah H let her thoughts be known on yelp.com...

Stopped by here in a hurry to grab a cup of coffee before heading home on our way back from Chicago. The staff were kind and accommodating. I'm annoying when it comes to how my lattes are made and they were super patient with me which I appreciate more than they know. They didn't have whole milk but the barista offered to make me whole milk from half and half. Sweet! My decaf vanilla latte was perfectly creamy and smooth. It gave me a boost of the (placebo effect) "caffeine" I needed to drive another two hours home.

Now we all know where to go when we need a pick me up!
