With the recent passing of Kalamazoo resident Daniel Redd and countless other incidents that can occur at anytime in southwest Michigan, it's very important we have a quick and discrete way to reach out for help in situations where we may be in terrible danger.

IPhone users are now able to send an Emergency SOS Call to police with the new IOS 11 download. According to the IPhone support page, all you have to do is click the power button 5 times quickly and you'll be met with a lock screen looking like this:

Apple Support states that using this feature:

When you make a call with SOS, your iPhone automatically calls the local emergency number. In some countries and regions, you might need to choose the service that you need. For example, in China you can choose police, fire, or ambulance. You can also add emergency contacts. After an emergency call ends, your iPhone alerts your emergency contacts with a text message, unless you choose to cancel. Your iPhone sends them your current location, and, for a period of time after you enter SOS mode, it sends updates to your emergency contacts when your location changes.

The support page also shows how to operate this feature with the new IPhone 8, 8+ * IPhone X. Make sure this holiday season we all stay safe and watch out for one another. Hopefully this feature will come in hand if the unfortunate event occurs in which it needs to be used.
