"Derrike has impressed me to the max the past month or so," said Derrike Prater's sister Kim.

What started out as a sad story…has a happy ending.

"He started two-a-days ready and pumped for football, but on his second day, he tore his bicep and the doctors told him he would be out for the season. This was heartbreaking after three years of football, that his senior year would be spent watching. He stayed positive, and went to every practice and lifting session. He kept his team pumped, and didn't let anyone focus any attention on him. He found out he can play, and starts this Friday"

That perseverence and "never say die" attitude makes Derrike Prater this week's 103.3 KFR/Meijer H.S. Athlete of the Week.

Derrike is also on the Homer's Students Against Destructive Decisions and plays baseball.
