Holy Shiner

She fell 8 feet off of our aunt’s porch onto concrete and got a concussion.

She put one side of one of those plastic Easter eggs in her mouth and it got stuck.  She started vomiting into the egg and could have choked to death.  I ran to get my mom and she pretty much had to stick her whole hand in my sister’s mouth to dislodge it.  Whew!

She walked underneath a teeter-totter and when it came down, the nail that was sticking out from underneath the seat, drilled her in the head.

We took a family vacation to Disney World when I was 10 and we stayed at the All-Star Music Resort.  My dad was probably in the bathroom, my mom was laying in the chair and Katie and I were swimming in the guitar shaped pool.  Katie, who was 5 at the time, swam too far into the deep end and I noticed her having some trouble.  I swam over (Dun duh duh daah) to try to help her, but it was too deep for me too.  There was a lifeguard sitting in his chair right above where we were but he wasn’t paying attention.  Katie couldn’t stay above the water so I swam under her and lifted her up so she could get my mom’s attention.  After coming up for air a few times I saw my mom swimming over to us.  I’ve never seen her swim so fast.  The “deep end” was the 5 foot side but you have to remember we were young and neither of us could reach.  The funny part is, neither could my mom (sorry mom) but she still swam out without a floatie and pulled us to the side.  When we got out of the pool my mom (Tammy The Taminator) went over to the lifeguard and made him wish he was never born.

We were around the same age when we were playing in the yard and she tried to get herself killed.  There was a car coming and she tried to run into the street to catch a ball.  Luckily I was standing on the patch of grass between the sidewalk and the street. I reached out, grabbed her by her hips and swung her around.  I remember it like it was yesterday!

You know those gems you put in the bottom of a flower vase?  They are about the size of the rocks that you’d put in the vase.  Well, Katie thought it would be a brilliant idea to put one in her mouth.  Our neighbor Marley was over played with Katie and yelled for me.  We had JUST learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver so I tried it on her and it popped right out!  I was convinced my mom would put me on Oprah.

She has really long blonde hair and got one wrapped around her eyeball.  She went to her doctor who pulled it out and the hair was at least 5-6 inches long. The doctor had to pull it from behind her eye and she said she could feel it inside her head.  EW!

She has ripped off her big toe nail on BOTH toes at least once.

Last but not least...the shiner.  She was playing a game where you throw a Frisbee somewhere in the yard, and that’s the “hole” for the golf game.  Whoever hits closest to the Frisbee wins.  One guy aimed at the Frisbee and was WAY off. The ball hit her in the face, while she was just an innocent bystander sitting up against a brick wall.  The guys didn’t think the ball hit her, they thought it hit the wall because it bounced off about 30 feet.  30 FEET OFF OF KATIE’S FACE.  She had her face checked out by a surgeon who said she got really lucky because if it would’ve hit an inch to the left, it would’ve hit her temple.  If it would’ve hit her in the eye directly, she could have lost her vision.  If it had hit her in the nose, it would’ve broken it.  She said, “So if it was going to hit me in the face, it was a good place.”
