WARNING: Your personal and/or business FedEx account is NOT safe.  Get details on how to protect yourself below.

FedEx was hit by a cyber attack on May 11th, 2017.  Now I'm paying to ship items for Igor, Vasiliy and Natalja.  Who are these people and why isn't FedEx stopping this?

According to bizjournals.com,

SwiftonSecurity, a leading cybersecurity website, tweeted that FedEx employees were ordered to turn off computers after the malware was detected to stop it from spreading.

“Like many other companies, FedEx is experiencing interference with some of our Windows-based systems caused by malware," FedEx said in a statement to the Pittsburgh Business Times. "We are implementing remediation steps as quickly as possible. We regret any inconvenience to our customers.”

Once the hackers got into my account they changed the email address by putting a 2 at the end.  For example, dana@yahoo.com became dana2@yahoo.com  Then I could no longer be notified when a package was shipped.  Luckily I just noticed the fraudulent charges on my debit card statement and stopped it before it got crazy.

Here's what you can do to protect yourself.

  1. Sign into your FedEx account and make sure your current email address and phone number are on the account.  You MUST do this before you change your password.
  2. Change your password.
  3. Check your shipping history.
  4. If there are shipments you do not recognize call FedEx right away at 800-622-1147.
