Finally some good news. After 2 years of grim announcements of store closures at Lakeview Square Mall, it was announced that Miami based firm Lionheart Capital would be acquiring the properties that once housed Macy's and JCPenney.

Lionheart Capital also owns a former JCPenney at the Midland Mall in Midland, a former Macy's at the Birchwood Mall in Fort Gratiot and several other former department stores at malls in Florida, Ohio, Maine, New York as well as Pennsylvania, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Lionheart purchased the Macy's property in January 2018 and the JCPenney property in November 2018.

A representative of the Lionheart Capital was quated as saying "We just feel that there’s a lot of opportunity in Battle Creek based on the population and demographics," and that "There are ways to enhance and improve the retail offerings in this community."

The properties will most likely have mixed-use: part retail, part entertainment or even medically driven. Official talks between owner's of the Lakeview Square Mall,  Battle Creek's economic development team and Lionheart Capital will take place in the new year about each groups visions for the properties.
