Walk for Kids Returns to Kalamazoo to Help Local children with Life threatening Illnesses

Join The Rainbow Connection Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Markin Glen Park in Kalamazoo for the annual Walk for Kids.   The Rainbow Connection makes dreams come true for Michigan children stricken with life threatening illnesses.  Following the walk participants enjoy games, crafts, great raffle prizes and a picnic lunch! Registration begins at 8:00am and the Walk starts at 9:00am.

“These walks are fun and the turnout was truly amazing, It is always good when families have the opportunity to do something together that also benefits their own community.” said Mary Grace McCarter, Executive Director of the Rainbow Connection. “We are hoping to break last year’s record numbers.  We keep the registration manageable and hope folks will go out and seek those pledges because, frankly, we are counting on it to make dreams come true for these brave Michigan kids.”

The Walk for Kids was created by wish families twelve years ago to support making dreams come true for Michigan children stricken with life threatening illnesses.  Originally in a local park in Oakland County, the Walks for Kids are now six locations strong across Michigan.

“Making a dream come true for these brave Michigan kids suffering with life threatening illnesses gives them something to look forward to during difficult medical treatment,” said Mary Grace McCarter, Executive Director of The Rainbow Connection. “Fulfilling a child’s dream also provides the opportunity to create lasting family memories.”

Wish child Alexandria is this year’s Walk for Kids Wish Ambassador.  Alexandria is 14 years old and lives in Brooklyn.  She and her family went to Disney World and absolutely loved the sunny weather, rides and meeting the most famous mouse on earth-M-I-C-K-E-Y!  Alexandria and her family will share their experience with The Rainbow Connection on Saturday and are looking forward to leading the 2014 Kalamazoo Walk for Kids as this year’s Wish Ambassador.

Details for all Walks for Kids are available at www.rainbowconnection.org/walkforkids. Anyone wishing to participate in a walk can register and collect pledges online. Pledges are based on participation rather than distance.

The Rainbow Connection makes dreams come true for Michigan children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses and provides support services to the families.  Incorporated as a Michigan 501(c) (3) charity in 1985, The Rainbow Connection has made more than 2700 dreams come true.   For more information before, during and after the Walk call 248-601-9474 or email info@rainbowconnection.org
