Community Action Agency's main goal is to help people achieve and maintain independence.  Last year, Community Action provided assistance to more than 15,400 children, seniors, and low-income individuals in its four-county service area.  The focus for the"Early Education nation Reading with Tess' program is to create awareness about the importance of early childhood development.  Reading is very important at all ages.

A few things to remember about reading to your children and why it is so important.

  1. It helps create a stronger relationship with you.  It should not be a chore or a task, it should be a nurturing activity that will bring the two of you closer together.
  2. Academic Excellence. A primary benefit is a higher aptitude for learning.  Studies have shown that kids that are exposed to reading before preschool are more likely to do well in all facets of education.
  3. Basic Speech Skills. This is the time when your child is learning critical language and enunciation skills.
  4. The basics of how to read a book. Kids aren’t born with an innate knowledge that you are to read left to right.
  5. Better Communication Skills. When you spend time reading to toddlers, they’ll be much more likely to express themselves and relate to others in a healthy way.
