For those of you who are yet to experience "analog" music, you're in luck.  Cassette tapes are on a comeback.

There is only one company in the U.S. still turning out cassette tapes.  The National Audio Company based out of Springfield, MO has been creating tapes since 1969.  Would you believe 2015 was their best year ever?

Prisons may actually be responsible for keeping cassettes alive.  Most prisons allow cassettes and walkmans for music...no CDs, no MP3 players.

According to 99% Invisible,

So, despite the new technology being available, a lot of inmates (even in prisons where there are other options) still prefer cassettes…at least for now. Prisons tend to be late adopters of technology, so maybe one day all prisons in the US will make the switch from cassette to digital. Or maybe they’ll skip from tapes to CDs first, just to be illogically chronological.

Do you remember the first tape you bought as a kid?  Let us know in the comments on Facebook or Tweet us.

In other news....Happy Birthday Prince!
