The Consumers Credit Union at 4023 Portage St. was robbed Friday morning at 10:18 a.m., according to a news release from Kalamazoo Public Safety.

The suspect entered the credit union carrying a Jimmy John’s box and telling clerks he had a delivery. The suspect then displayed two black handguns and robbed the tellers of cash. The Jimmy John’s box was left at the credit union by the suspect. After being examined by the Kalamazoo Public Safety Bomb Squad, the box was found to contain nothing explosive.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white male with dark, tanned skin. He is believed to be 45-55yrs. of age and 5-feet-6-inches to 6-feet tall. Witnesses believed he was approximately 200 pounds and had noticeable bow legs. He was wearing a black coat, blue jeans, larger frame (unknown color) sun glasses and a tan “fishing style” hat with an approximately 2-inch-rim all around the hat. Witnesses described his hair as black and curly — he was possibly wearing a wig.

The suspect fled the credit union and is believed to have driven away in a red, older-model four-door sedan, similar to a Toyota Corolla type vehicle. He was last seen northbound from the credit union.
