I read a great article in Mlive about the "America's Night Out Against Crime" that is taking place on Aug 2nd. A number of neighborhoods are having cookouts to support our police force, keep kids safe and really just have a good time. I love this idea! As a kid growing up, every year the block association on the street I lived would have a huge picnic. All the neighbors would come with a dish to pass, there where hot dogs and hamburgers, but the best was there was Townclub soda (as much as you could drink)! We would play games, swim and one of the guys on the block would dress up as a clown (yes, I know, clowns are scary). At the end of the day, everyone was happy, exhausted and sunburned. I think block parties and cookouts are what we need today. We need time with the people we share land and community with.

I would love to hear about your block party story. What memories do you have of  neighborhood picnics and would attend one today?

Oh and I know a great cookout I would love to see you at....Ribfest, Aug 4th - 6th...come and make some memories!
