A fire at an apartment complex in Battle Creek has displaced several dozen residents and caused a large amount of damage.

WWMT reports that the fire started at the Village Inn Apartments on Riverside Dr. right near Dickman Rd. around 10:30pm Sunday, and a large response was carried out, with responders from the Battle Creek Fire Department, Pennfield, Emmett Township and more. Authorities believe that everyone inside was able to get out, though at least seven residents had to be treated for smoke inhalation and one firefighter suffered from overexertion.

Investigators say that the fire started in one building and spread to two others, although it’s unclear how many units were damaged. It’s also not known what started this blaze. As of 4am Monday morning, a large police and fire presence was still located at the scene. However, no flames were visible from the street and the fire appeared to be mostly extinguished.

The Red Cross has been called in to help the residents of these apartments, who have all been displaced.
