Think you’ve deciphered what all those seemingly unrelated American Horror Story trailers are hinting at in regards to its Season 6 plot? Think again, because you’re probably wrong!

The show’s creators recently admitted to straight-up bamboozling fans, as only one of the six teasers they’ve released thus far actually indicates Season 6’s overarching storyline, according to Vulture.

FX productions CEO John Landgraf admitted to an audience at the Television Critics Association today (August 9) that the theme has been largely withheld from fans because creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk “thought it would really be fun to keep it a mystery.”

To ensure viewers would be kept firmly in the dark as to the forthcoming season’s details, Landgraf explained, “What [FX marketing president] Stephanie Gibbons and her team, with Ryan’s help, did is they went out and made many more trailers for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story; different genres and different places.

“One of them is accurate and the others are all misdirects,” he said. “So we’re just having fun with it, and we just thought it would be fun after I’ve years of doing it one way."

Popular theories floating around about the show's possible story arc include a reference to the Charles Manson murders as well as a focus on the mystery surrounding Roanoke, where 116 settlers vanished from a North Carolina colony back in 1590.

Check out the full arsenal of American Horror Story trailers that have been released thus far above and below, and place your bets on which one is actually representative of Season 6.
