    Take a Sunset Walk

Fair warning...he's perfectly fine with laying around in the air conditioning, but they actually need to get outside for some fresh air and a chance to stretch their legs.  Same goes for the ladies, its good for you.

    Go to a Baseball Game

You can talk or you can watch the game…no matter what, you're sharing the experience of a lovely day becoming a nice night.  Doesn't have to be a Texas Rangers game, I just couldn't find a better picture :P

Send the Kids on a Sleepover and Stay Home

It will totally be worth it. You don't have to decide who is drinking and who is driving, you don't have to dress up, spend money or deal with crowds. Your home is suddenly transformed into a hotel room with an all-access minibar and your favorite pillow.

    Play a Lawn Sport Together

Badminton is a surprisingly satisfying game and Croquet is good too. Then there are games where you have to work together (Hacky Sack, Kickball, Frisbee, Hillbilly Golf...my favorite!); they help you communicate and cooperate. Also, interacting physically outside is pretty conducive to interacting physically inside later ;)

    Find an Outdoor Festival

Every outdoor fair worth going to has a stand selling sugary fried dough and meat on a stick. Find the stands selling the food as soon as you get there. He can eat while you look at fruitwood salad bowls, and in order to not get separated in the throng of people, you'll end up holding hands.
